1959 Jocko Streamliner Navigation
This Streamliner set an elapsed time (E.T.) record of 8.35 sec. (178 mph) in the spring of 1959 at Bakersfield, CA. It was built by Robert 'Jocko' Johnson and driven by Jim 'Jazzy' Nelson. This smooth fiberglass body rests over chrome-moly tubing. For horsepower, Jocko started with a 331 un-blown Chrysler units which he later increased to 450 CID with a GMC 6-71 blower and Jazzy's 'classified' reworked floatless Stromberg 48 carburetors. After many successful outings, the car was damaged during a high-speed run. This body style was later used by Jocko and Gartlits in 1972 in an attempt to re-introduce streamlining to drag racing. It was restored in 1987 by 'Jocko.'
