1971 Datsun 510 Sedan

Peter Brock and Brock Racing Enterprises (BRE) built and raced the #46 Datsun 510 with John Morton as its driver. The team won the 1971 and 1972 SCCA Trans Am Under 2.5-liter Championship, with the first considered a major upset. The 1971 Trans Am 2.5 liter victory, by the #46 Brock Racing Enterprises Datsun 510, firmly established the company in the U.S. motorsports scene. After a hotly contested season, Datsun captured victory at the season ending race at Laguna Seca. This occurred after a technicality disqualified the reigning champion Alfa Romeo. A repeat victory followed in 1972 with John Morton again, at the wheel.

Few race fans thought the little Datsun from Japan could match the pace of the Alfas and BMWs, so its success earned it the reputation as 'giant killer' among American racing fans. These victories carried on the successes of the earlier Datsun roadsters and paved the way for Datsun victories in the 1970's from Baja to Bonneville.

To this day it remains one of the most recognizable and honored racing cars of all time, and it established Nissan as an accomplished performance brand.

This is the actual car driven by Morton to the championship, and it remains unaltered and in its original racing livery. It is powered by a 1,986cc SOHC 4-cylinder (U-20) engine with a 12.8:1 compression ratio and delivering 190 horsepower at 6,500 RPM. There is a close ratio 5-speed manual transmission and it has a curb weight of 1,890 lbs.
