The John P. Blatchley designed 1966 Silver Shadow would endure in its elegant design well into the 1990s. In 1970, Rolls-Royce introduced the Corniche Drophead Coupe as a convertible variant of the popular Silver Shadow. Each vehicle was specially ordered at Mulliner Park Ward Coachworks in London, taking over a month to handcraft. The finest Connolly leather hides were used, and the top alone was crafted so perfectly that it fit like the roof of a coupe. During its production lifespan, the Corniche was subtly improved, including the addition of an oil cooler, an aluminum radiator, slightly longer wheelbase, and a new wheel design. Four-wheel ventilated disc brakes debuted in 1972. Steering was improved in 1977 with a rack-and-pinion setup. Cruise control was standard equipment, and despite its weight of nearly 5,000 pounds, the Corniche was a very capable performer with acceleration from rest to 60 mph in less than 10 seconds, en route to top speeds exceeding 120 mph. The Corniche was a well optioned vehicle with the only real options being available to customers being the choice of exterior colors and custom ordered interior appointments and décor.

The Corniche was available as a coupe and a drophead. The coupe was discontinued in 1982, but the cabriolet remained in production for 14 more years through 1996. The Cornice had sportier bodies and offered greater than the Silver Shadow with a revised camshaft profile and a larger-diameter exhaust system.

The Series II was introduced in 1986, and came with improved braking, refinements in the electronics and federally required collision avoidance lights on the rear deck.

This particular example is one of 1,234 Series II Corniche convertibles produced. It is finished in Olde English White complimented by a plush seats covered camel-tone full leather featuring ivory whipcord. The Everlast top is done in light tan.
