Chrysler's New Yorker would serve as the premier model for the company from 1940 to 1966. Chrysler first began using the New Yorker Special name in 1938 when it was used to denote the trim level.
In the mid-1950s, the Virgil Exner styling was exhibited; 1961 would be the final year for the Exner-designed fins, also known as the 'Forward Look' models. 1961 was also the year for a complete redesign featuring new slanted headlights in the front. The rear taillights were relocated from the fins to right above the bumper. The industry agreed with the redesign, as Chrysler sales rose to 11th position in the industry.
This particular example is a New Yorker Station Wagon powered by a 413 cubic-inch engine mated to a pushbutton automatic transmission. It is a top-of-the-line New Yorker wagon finished in Alaskan White over Tan vinyl upholstery and carpeting. It is largely unrestored. Inside, there is a padded dash, power windows, a power bench front seat, air conditioning, a factory radio, and dual-side view mirrors.By Daniel Vaughan | Apr 2017
