Initially, the Speedster was an 'economy' model from Porsche that was intended to compete with some of the British sports cars. The Speedster featured a low, wraparound windscreen, with a retractable top, lower door waistline and twin bucket seats.
During Porsche's production history, they have only produced a Speedster four times. The first Speedster was in 1953, the second in 1988, the third in 1993/4, and the fourth in 2011.
In celebration of the 25th anniversary of Porsche Exclusive - a division of Porsche which customizes new cars to customers desired specifications, as well as spear heading limited edition production models - Porsche unveiled the 2011 Porsche 997 Speedster at the 2010 Paris Motor Show. Just 356 examples of the 2011 Speedsters were built with fewer than 100 of those being exported to the United States.
The 2011 Porsche Speedster had a black framed windshield that was 2.4 inches lower than the standard 997. They had a double hump that eliminated the rear seats and covers the fabric top when stowed. Along with being exclusive, it was also the most expensive and heavily option sports car Porsche offered. The 997 Speedster came with PASM (Porsche Active Suspension Management), Porsche's twin-clutch PDK automated manual gearbox, Sport Chrono plus, limited slip, and Porsche's track-tested ceramic composite brakes (PCCB). The naturally aspirated 3.8-liter engine offered 408 horsepower, which is 63 BHP more than a standard Carrera.
The 997 Speedster rode on Fuchs style wheels, and was fitted with a unique aerokit, black stone guards, and leather seats adorned with a checkered pattern featuring Speedster stitching.
This particular example is number 182 of the 356 produced. It is believed that just 90 examples were exported to the United States. Number 182 has covered less than 5,500 miles and is finished in optional Carrera White.
This car was originally sold in Florida and has remained on the East Coast its entire life.By Daniel Vaughan | Apr 2017
