In 1935, Sir Charles Godsal, a Cambridge graduate and son of a well-known London Barrister and inventor, commissioned the construction of an automobile of his own design. The product of his blueprint was the Godsal Sports Tourer, a sleek and sporty affair built by the famous Corsica Coachworks and constructed by Research Engineers LTD of London. Sir Charles was certainly a talented designer who drew on his engineering background, utilizing the best in the business to build this one-off vehicle. The final cost to construct this prototype was 3,000 British Pounds or nearly $4,000, a staggering sum of money for 1935.
By the war's end, Sir Charles had moved on to other interests in the aviation field and the automobile was stored and the idea forgotten. It reappeared in 1969 in the WWI movie, Mosquito Squadron starring David McCallum. The Godsal made its way to the United States in the 1970s when a car buff discovered it in a London Garage.
Still sporting its original 221 cubic-inch V8 which produces 85 hp, the restoration was completed in December 2019.
