2003 Alpina V8 Navigation
Alpina, the Buchloe, Germany-based BMW tuner recognized as a full-fledged automobile manufacturer by the German Federal Ministry of Transport, partnered with BMW in 2003 to create a limited-production version of the BMW Z8. The V8 Roadster was produced by BMW from 1999 through 2003 with a total of 5,307 examples built. Alpina placed their badge on 555 examples, and this was the first Alpina model officially sold in the United States.
The engineers at Alpina replaced the V8 and six-speed manual gearbox with an Alpina-tuned 4.8-liter V8 mated to a five-speed Steptronic automatic transmission. The 32-valve dual overhead cam engine was fitted with Bosch Motronic fuel injection and offered 375 horsepower. Other Alpina changes included more relaxed suspension tuning, 20-inch Alpina Turbine wheels, and a softer grade of Nappa leather that adorned the interior along with special Alpina gauges and a three-spoke steering wheel.
