2011 Porsche 911 GT2 RS Coupe

  • Chassis Number: WP0AE2A92BS778189
Porsche unveiled the new 911 GT2 RS at the Moscow Motor Show in August of 2010. It was the first and only turbocharged model to carry the RS moniker. It was a development of the factory's Motorsport and Exclusive departments, and spearheaded by Andreas Preuninger. The result of their work was a track-focused 911 with the aesthetic and performance to rival the world's greatest supercars.

Powering the GT2 RS was a 3.6-liter twin-turbocharged Mezger flat-six. It was an evolution of the engine found in the 911 GT1 that had captured an overall victory at LeMans in 1998. The M97/70 engine offered 620 bhp, making the GT2 RS the most powerful road-going Porsche ever built without the use of hybrid technology.

The chassis was based on the concurrent GT3 RS, and efforts were made to reduce the overall weight wherever possible. Unnecessary sound-deadening was removed, and lightweight components, such as pull-strap door handles, carbon fiber panels, and a single-mass flywheel, were utilized. Porsche engineers gave the GT2 RS special spring rates and anti-roll bars, composite ceramic brakes, and recalibrated Porsche Adaptive Suspension Management and Stability Management systems.

Exposed carbon fiber helped differentiate the GT2 RS from other 911 models. Other visual cues included wide center-lock alloy wheels, flared wheel arches, and model designations on the doors and rear lid. Matte-finish carbon fiber was also integrated into the redesigned front and rear spoilers, which enhanced aerodynamics and provided extra downforce.

The 3,020 lb vehicle had a power-to-weight ratio of just 4.9 lbs per horsepower. Zero-to-sixty mph was accomplished in just 3.4 seconds, and it had a track top speed of 205 mph. It could lap the Nürburgring-Nordschleife circuit in just 7'18.

Porsche built just 500 examples of the GT2 RS, with just 142 of those being sent to the North American market.

This particular example is one of only 33 North American market cars originally specified with the combination of carbon fiber sport seats and carbon fiber front fenders, the latter a rarely seen $6,840 factory option. Of the 33 examples with this feature, this is one of 10 finished in black, and one of just two finished in 'press edition' specification, with silver wheels and a two-tone interior, fully trimmed in optional contrasting black leather and red Alcantara.

The car was optioned with the Porsche Communication Management system, Sound and Sport Chrono Packages, interior color floor mats, lightweight battery, and lightweight headlights. Exclusive Department options, including a thicker sports steering wheel, leather-trimmed rear center console, Porsche crests on the headrests, clear taillights, and an aluminum footrest, further contributed to the car's $267,450 MSRP.

This Porsche was completed on January 20th of 2011, and delivered to Porsche of Roslyn, in Long Island, New York. The current owner acquired the car from the second owner. Currently, the odometer shows less than 2,900 original miles.
