1961 Morgan Plus Four Navigation
This Morgan Plus 4 Roadster was delivered new through Bob Fergus Motors of New York. It was subsequently acquired by a West Virginia enthusiast in 1992 from the Morgan Works at Malvern Link, Worcestershire, as a chassis and complete wooden body tub. It was given an aluminum body over the wooden body frame, with a scuttle-mounted roll bar, both a folding windshield and two Brooklands racing windscreens, and the dashboard fitted with restored cream-toned instruments. It was given a correct top, along with a tonneau cover and side curtains.
Although keeping the car as original as possible, it was given a few modern upgrades including fiberglass fenders to prevent rusting, a Super Sport-style air induction scoop on the hood, Super Sport-style seats with modern safety belts, and an aluminum shield to deflect any gas leakage from the carburetors away from the engine. Other modern modifications include a battery cut-off switch, a fire extinguisher mounted under the bonnet, and an electric fan. It has front disc brakes (correct for this time period), and assisted by Toyota dual master cylinders, a common and accepted later upgrade.
This car is currently in the care of the Orin Smith collection. The Triumph OHV four-cylinder engine displaces 1991cc and offers 90 horsepower. There is a four-speed Moss manual transmission, Girling front disc brakes, and rear drums.
