1958 Austin-Healey Sprite Navigation
The Donald Healey-designed Sprite entered production at MG's Abingdon factory in March 1958. Underlining the car's sporty intentions, it was officially introduced a few months later in Monte Carlo, just prior to the start of the Monte Carlo Rally. It had a unitary construction body shell, rearward-hinging, combined bonnet and wings, and two 'bug eye' headlamps. It had an independent front suspension and rack-and-pinion steering.
This particular example is an early production car that was built on June 30th of 1958. It was dispatched for the USA market on Independence Day. By 1997 it was in Glendale, Arizona where the previous owners bought it. At the time, the car was in need of a restoration which soon commenced.
