1967 Morgan 4/4 Roadster

  • Chassis Number: B1448
  • Engine Number: 7F19-B202
The Morgan 4/4 is the world's longest running production vehicle with today's example being recognizably the same car as the 1936 forbearer.

Engineer H F S Morgan showed his first three-wheeled car at Olympia in 1910. The first four-wheeled, four-seater Morgan appeared in 1936 powered by Coventry Climax's 1,122cc, four-cylinder inlet-over-exhaust engine. A special Climax-engined sports model competed at LeMans two years later, qualifying for the Biennial Cup. A special Standard 1,267cc overhead-valve four-cylinder engine was introduced for the 1939 season and would continue to power the 4/4 model to 1950.

In 1955, after a five-year hiatus, the Morgan 4/4 was re-introduced with Ford 100E power. Over the years, the 4/4 was regularly updated with more modern engines. Currently, modern versions are being sold with a 1.6-liter Ford Sigma unit.

This particular Morgan 4/4 two-seater was dispatched on November 11th of 1967. It was sent to the United States and sold new by Joe Cam's Autorama of Pennsylvania. It left the factory with a leather interior, wire wheels, a heater, and a louvered bonnet.

The Morgan was discovered in 1985 by Norris Haynes of Archdale, North Carolina. It was found in Florida under the ownership of the believed-to-be second owner, Ronald K. Ray. The car was with Norris until 1997 when Jeffrey March made an agreement to purchase the vehicle along with a brand new frame, with the understanding that Norris would complete a full nut-and-bolt, no expense spared, concours level restoration. The project took a decade to complete.

This Morgan is finished in Twilight Blue over a tan Connelley leather interior which is contrasted by deep blue Wilton wool carpets pipped with tan leather. It has a Stay Fast Canvas top and tonneau cover which is also pipped with a matching tan leather accent.

The current owner acquired the car in 2009 shortly after the restoration was completed.

The engine is a 1500cc 4-cylinder unit with Twin Weber carburetors and offers 85 horsepower. There is a four-speed manual transmission, a leaf spring suspension, and drum brakes.
