The Hudson triangle emblem has been given several different origin stories. One story states that the first side represents the designers, engineers, and factory workers who made the cars, the second side represents the auto dealers who sold them, and the third side represents the customers who bought them. Another story has three sides representing the three company founders: Frederick Bezner, Roy Chapin, and Howard Coffin.
There were numerous new features for the 1917 model run. This includes factory optional front and rear bumpers, Rudge-Whitworth wire wheels, and side-mounted spares. The dashboard is outfitted with Stewart gauges.
The Super Six was the first engine produced entirely in-house by Hudson. They had previously purchased engines from Continental. This straight-six has a counterbalanced crankshaft and produces 76 horsepower. Company advertising tells of Hudson's powered by the Super Six winning a 7,000-mile transcontinental endurance race and breaking records at Pikes Peak.
Biddle and Smart was a carriage builder founded in the 1880s that transitioned to auto bodies by the early 1900s. They supplied the body for this seven-passenger chauffeur-driven limousine, one of several offerings. Among the many features are interior courtesy lights, exterior coach lights, and a one-way speaker that allows passengers to give instructions to the chauffeur.
