1989 Dodge Viper Concept Navigation
The Viper concept debuted at the Detroit Auto Show in 1989 - literally stealing the show - and many hearts. Its stunning roadster volumes, impossibly exaggerated proportions, outsized tires and cleverly exposed exhaust bundle immediately put Dodge back on the enthusiast mind and the whole brand back on the map of pop culture relevance.
The V10 engine is a foundry brazed Dodge V8 with 2 added cylinders. The corporate sponsors were Bob Lutz, Tom Gale, and Francois Castaing with the encouragement of Carroll Shelby. It provided the statement that Chrysler was no longer a 'K car' 4 cylinder engine company. The vehicle was first seen at the 1989 Detroit Auto Show and $1,000 checks were mailed to Chrysler to pre-order a car, asking that it be built.
