1965 Plymouth Belvedere AWB Hardtop Coupe

This 1965 Plymouth Belvedere was campaigned out of Detroit, Michigan by the Shadowoods Auto Center and the Tignanelli Brothers to run in the altered wheelbase C/SX class. Known for their expertise in building Chrysler race engines, the Shadowoods crew built this car in their shop. It was driven by Tom Tignanelli and it made quite a mark at tracks nationwide for several years.

Although one magazine dubbed this car 'ugly but aero' there is no doubt that it was always a standout. The beautiful gold and black paint scheme is complemented by the red tinted plexiglas windows. Powered by a 426 Hemi engine, it would see numerous changes over the years, including the use of a rounded smooth front end cap to enhance aerodynamics, a feat considered far ahead of its time. It was always immaculate and competitive, and a huge draw at tracks in the United States and Canada.

After years of searching, the current owner eventually found the car in Canada. The car was somewhat complete and still wearing much of its original sheet-metal and fiberglass. After considerable research and direct input from Tom Tignanelli, an extensive restoration was recently completed, returning the car to its original as-raced condition utilizing only original and period correct parts.
