1933 Lincoln Model KB Navigation
The power wars of the 1930's had begun. Cadillac introduced the massive V-16 engine in 1930 and the V-12 in 1931. Pierce Arrow, Marmon, and Packard all introduced larger, more powerful engine options as well. So it wasn't too surprising that in 1932 Lincoln introduced their V-12 engine.
Splitting into two lines for 1932, the Lincoln K-Series featured the carryover Model KA and the new V12 powered Model KB. Producing 150 horsepower, the KB featured the marquees new 447.9 cubic-inch 65-degree L-head engine. The new KB also featured a sleeker grille with less of a surround, vent hood doors rather than vertical louvers on the sides, a parking light on top of each front fender and lower profile 18-inch wire wheels.
1933 would be the last year for the coveted V-12 engine during the Classic Era, as it was prohibitively expensive to manufacture.
In the 1930's custom coachbuilding was an option for most of the upscale automobile companies. The KB model was the ultimate Lincoln and most people would purchase the chassis and then have it shipped to a custom coachbuilder. Brunn and Company was a good match for Lincoln and they would create custom order bodies for many of their cars. Amazingly, in 1933, Lincoln offered 26 body styles and you could choose among 17 custom coachbuilders.
Due to the depression and increased competition, only 533 Lincoln KB models were made. Very few of them have survived. This example is one of only three examples known to exist. It was first restored by noted Lincoln collector Roy Warshawsky and remained in his collection until his death. It was then acquired by Richard Scott, who returned the car to full operating condition after many years on static display. The current owner has further restored it.
