1971 Mercedes-Benz 600 Sedan

The Model 600 Mercedes-Benz, known as the 'Grosser Mercedes' (Grand Mercedes) was the successor to the Type 300 Adenour. It was the company's flagship model, offered in two wheelbase lengths. The shorter wheelbase models such as this were designed to be owner driven, while the long wheelbase models were designed to be chauffer driven. This was Mercedes most expensive model for the years 1963-1981.

The 600's great size, weight and extensive use of hydraulically driven amenities required an entirely new design 6.3-liter 8-cylinder engine. This engine produces 300 horsepower and features a single overhead camshaft (SOHC) design along with Bosch mechanical fuel injection. The hydraulic pressured systems include all of the windows, the seats, the sunroof, the trunk lid and on some models, the doors.

This 600 was originally owned and driven by Mr. Jules Barsotti. Barsotti was the owner of the Mercedes-Benz dealership in San Francisco, California. It was later sold to Mr. Morse, who was the founder and developer of The Villages retirement community in Florida. Other famous owners of Mercedes-Benz 600 limousines include Hugh Hefner, Elvis Presley, Jay Leno, Jack Nicholson and John Lennon.

A mere 2,677 SWB 600 Limousines were produced worldwide.
