1972 Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow Saloon

In 1972 Rolls-Royce built 2,473 motorcars, of which 629 were bound for the United States. This motorcar is one of just 75 long wheelbase sedans that came to America that year. Each of the long wheelbase motorcars was finished at the in-house Mulliner Park Ward coachworks.

The long wheelbase car was four inches longer for extra rear seat room and even smoother ride. Approximately six months passed between the initial order of chassis number LRA-14159 and its delivery to the docks for shipment to America. This car was built for stock at the request of the American distributor.

Ironically, the original owner of this car was in business with Pratt & Whitney, the principal competitor to Rolls-Royce in the jet engine marketplace. The car spent the first 20 years of its life at his summer home in Florida.

As was the case with most 'for stock' cars, no options were specified when this car was commissioned. In fact, Rolls-Royce did not even have a catalog and option list like the American car makers of that time. Yet that did not mean all cars were the same. Every motorcar was uniquely handmade, even if nothing special was on the order.

This example has undergone a total restoration of every nut and bolt. It is one of the finest examples in the world as evidenced by winning its class at the Rolls-Royce Owners' Club annual meet for in 2015 and 2016.
