1907 Renault Model AI 35/45 Navigation
This Renault AI 35/45 HP Runabout is one of the race cars so closely associated with William Vanderbilt and his friends that the model is often called a Vanderbilt Renault. The AI has a 7.4-liter, 4-cylinder engine with a shaft drive to the differential, a wheelbase of 112-inches and a top speed of 80 to 85 mph. It is a close relative to the first Grand Prix-winning Renault; in fact, it is based upon the 1906 13-liter 90 HP Type AK that Renault used to contest the grueling Grand Prix de l'automobile Club de France, a two-day event which the Renault easily won. Over the years this Vanderbilt Racer, one of just five known to exist today, has been owned by three major collections: the Rockefeller, the Waterman and the Harrah Collections.
