This Ferrari 166 MM Le Mans Berlinetta with a body by Touring carries chassis number 0026M. It was the first of just five such examples created and before delivery the engine was upgraded to Type '195' specification that lifted horsepower from 140 to 170 horsepower. It was first shown at the Geneva Motor Show in March of 1950. That April Giannino Marzotto drove it to Ferrari's second consecutive win in the Mille Miglia. He led almost from start to finish and crossed the line eight minutes ahead of the runner up. Marzotto remains the youngest ever Mille Miglia winner at the age of 22.
The following month Ferrari displayed the car on the Touring stand at the Turin Motor Show. And in June Marzotto drove to the car to a first-place finish in the Notturne della Caracalla race in Rome, and then the car ran at LeMans. Marzotto sold his Mille Miglia winner to an enthusiast in Switzerland in 1957, and about a decade later this significant car was abandoned. For a time it lay in pieces in a scrapyard alongside other Ferraris, including a 250 GT SWB and a 275 GTB.
It was sold in 1965 and brought to California where it remained stored in a wooden crate for 36 years. In 1998 it was put up for auction. It was in poor condition with many of its pieces disassembled and dismantled. Still, it generated a high bid of $2 million for this historically significant automobile. The owner had the pieces assembled and commissioned a complete 3 year restoration. It made its restoration debut at the 2007 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance where it was awarded the 'Mille Miglia' Trophy. The car won numerous awards over the next few years and was once again driven in the Mille Miglia in both 2008 and 2009.
