The Ford Model T 'Tin Lizzie' was introduced in October of 1908 and would remain in production for nearly 19 years with around 15 million examples built and making Henry Ford a household name, putting the world on wheels. January 1911 saw the introduction of a completely restyled Model T, featuring a new body, fenders, wheels and a slightly revised brass radiator. A new engine was introduced later that year, as well as new front and rear axles appeared. The rear axle was now made of cast iron, with the front axle design now incorporating spindles and separate steering arms. Ford bodies were now made with steel panels over a wooden framework.
1912 brought a mile restyling with a 'new' Model T being introduced for 1913, having been introduced during September of 1912. They brought many detail updates including a 'Made in USA' now appearing on the Model T radiator below the 'Ford' Script. This same marking also appeared on many other Model T parts and possibly coincided with Canadian Ford automobile and parts production, since 1913 was also the year when Ford of Canada began engine production.
Five body styles were available for 1913, including the three-door Touring, two-door Runabout, four-door Town Car, two-Passenger Delivery Car, and two-door, two-Passenger Coupe, plus a bare chassis. The Touring body was the most example with 126,715 examples produced from October 1st of 1912 to September 30th of 1913.
This particular example was once part of the Jimmie Taylor Collection. It is finished in glossy black exterior paint and complemented by the brass radiator shell, Ford-scripted gas lamps with brass accents, and the wood-spoked wheels with brass hubcaps are surrounded by period-type Firestone tires. There is a bulb horn and a portable coal-type heater inside the button-tufted interior. It has a fitted folding top and a 176.7 cubic-inch L-head inline four-cylinder engine offering 20 horsepower.By Daniel Vaughan | Oct 2017
