1969 Shelby Mustang GT500 Coupe

This Shelby GT500 SportsRoof is finished in Silver Jade Metallic. It was number 500 of the 2,362 Shelby Mustangs produced for 1969, including only 1,402 GT500s. This car was ordered on November 25th of 1968, and built on January 20th of 1969, for delivery to Healy Motors Ltd. in Alberta, Canada, where it was sold to its original owner on January 24. Previously part of a private collection, the Shelby is equipped with the GT500's standard 428/335 HP Cobra Jet engine with Ram Air, C6 Cruise-O-Matic transmission and Traction-Lok differential, along with power front disc brakes and factory in-dash tachometer with trip odometer. The mileage is believed to be correct at 48,000 miles.

Like all 1968 through 1970 Shelbys, this car was completed on the A.O. Smith assembly line in Ionia, Michigan, where stripped-down Mustang SportsRoofs and convertibles received their unique Shelby components. For 1969, the Shelby differed dramatically from the standard Mustang with fiberglass nose, functional NACA ducts in the hood (including a center scoop that delivered cold air to the Holley carburetor), upper-and-lower side scoops, a duck-tailed rear end with sequential Thunderbird tail lights, aluminum 5-spoke wheels and the first-time use of reflective side stripes. Unlike any other Mustang, the 1969 Shelby came with a center-mount rear exhaust port, which provided the Shelby with its own distinctive exhaust sound. Inside, the deluxe Mustang interior was enhanced with a roll bar, unique 140 MPH speedometer and console-mounted gauge pod for ammeter and oil-pressure readings.
