1970 Dodge Coronet Navigation
Dodge revived the Coronet name plate in 1965, just as the muscle-car wars were beginning to heat up, returning it to the midsize B-body lineup it had occupied in the latter part of the 1950s. The model lineup was completely redesigned for 1966, as stylist Elwood Engel worked to keep pace with the aesthetic advances under way at Ford and GM. After another redesign in 1968, the Coronet's front and rear styling was subtly changed for 1969. In 1970, it received all-new front sheet metal and an aggressively styled split front grill with chromed surrounds. The R/T trim level added rear quarter-panel imitation scoops, a blacked-out tail panel with three-segment tail lights, a bumblebee rear stripe and a special hood with dual domed intake scoops. Prominent R/T badges were added to the center section of the hood, the side scoops and the tail panel to further distinguish it amongst its peers.
This Dodge WS23 Coronet R/T was delivered new to Swift Dodge in Sacramento, California. The WS23 designation denotes it as a 2-door hardtop version of the high-performance Coronet equipped with the U-Code 440 CID, 375 horsepower Magnum 4V V8 engine with 3-speed TorqueFlite automatic transmission and rare factory air conditioning. It was comprehensively restored and now shows 43,000 miles, which are believed to be original miles. The exterior is finished in FK5 Dark Burnt Orange Metallic paint with a white vinyl top and stripe, and a paint-matching Burnt Orange vinyl bucket-seat interior. Options fitted to this car include factory air condoning, tinted glass, push-button radio with rear speaker, Rallye wheels and special factory headers with tag instructions.By Daniel Vaughan | Oct 2017
