1998 Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet

When the Type 993 (as it was referred to internally) made its debut in 1994, it was almost entirely new. It had redesigned front- and rear-end treatments that were unmistakably Porsche in nature, along with subtle styling revisions which give it a muscular and fluidic shape. Porsche engineers stiffened the crank of the flat-6, and reduced the valve-gear mass by 10 percent, along with introducing hydraulic valve-lash adjusters, lightened the rods by 18 percent and reduced exhaust backpressure. Then they added Bosch's excellent Motronic 2.0 engine-management system for enhanced fuel metering and ignition. Their efforts resulted in a raised output from 247 HP to 270 HP and torque from 228 lb-ft to 243 lb-ft, which were delivered to one of two new transmissions: the 4-speed Tiptronic automatic or a 6-speed manual.

Another new addition was the 4-link rear suspension setup contained in an isolated cast-aluminum sub-frame, which replaced the old semi-trailing arm system. It virtually eliminated off-throttle oversteer, and new, larger cross-drilled disc brakes with ABS significantly reduced stopping distances and fade.

By this time this 1998 Porsche 911 Cabriolet was built, output had risen to 281 HP and 251 lb-ft of torque. It has 33,331 miles on its odometer and was given a 30,000 mile service performed at 26,000 miles. It has a black exterior, a black interior, and a black conv top. It has chromed 17-inch wheels with Yokohama tires, and a 6-speed manual transmission.
