1964 Shelby Cobra 289 Roadster

This Shelby Cobra 289 is finished in original red paint, has correctly painted wire wheels, and appropriate white sidewall tires. The car was purchased by Mr. Dodge Olmstead purchased CSX2328 on October 29th, 1964 from Cherner Motor Company in Washington, DC. The car was well-optioned with white sidewall tires, a luggage rack, wind wings, seatbelts, a radio, and an external rearview mirror, totaling $5791.75. Mr. Olmstead kept his red Cobra for about 2 years before trading it in February of 1966 towards a 427 Cobra, CSX3173, through Archway Motors in Baltimore, Maryland.

The car's second owner was Army Lieutenant Robert Whittacker. He brought the car to Florida and painted it metallic green before 1972 when it was acquired by Michigander Mr. Ray Angus, who had the car repainted silver. The next owner was Mr. Bill Kemper who acquired it in the spring of 1974 and returned it to its original red paintwork.

Over the next decade, the car passed through several collections before finding long-term ownership in 1986, when it was acquired by Mr. Seymour Levin. He retained the car in his collection in Pennsylvania for 24 years, before parting with it in 2010. That year, the car received a mechanical refresh before being sold.

The current owner has treated the car to a restoration to its original condition. The original aluminum bodywork was returned to bare metal and repainted in the original red over a new black interior. Seatbelts were installed. Other interior features include the unrestored steering wheel and Stewart Warner gauges.
