The Lamborghini Diablo GTR was a track-only variant of the limited-production GT model. Power was from a 6.0-liter engine offering 590 horsepower, 40 more than the previous SVR. A fully integrated roll cage protected the driver while a large rear wing, bolted directly onto the frame, provided the aerodynamic downforce and stability needed for high speed. The interior was stripped as a weight saving measure and the body was created almost entirely from carbon fiber; only the roof and doors remained metal for safety and rigidity. The windows were Plexiglass.
The 210 mile per hour Diablo GTR was produced in limited numbers with just 30 examples built.
This particular example is number 19 of the 30 built. It was a competition car for the entire run of the series. Its original owner was the Stephane Ratel Organization (SRO), and in the 2001 season the car was raced by Autovitesse still under SRO ownership. It wore silver metallic bodywork at the end of that year's campaign and was subsequently bought and raced by Reiter Engineering for the 2002 Supertrophy series.
From 2012 to 2013, this Diablo GT was brought given a ground-up restoration and finished in its original orange combination.By Daniel Vaughan | Nov 2017
