1970 Meyers Manx Dune Buggy

The Meyers Manx, created by Bruce F. Meyers, was based on European underpinnings. They had a modified Volkswagen Beatle drivetrain and frame, shortened by 14.5 inches, and often fitted with a lightweight fiberglass body. These purpose-built off-road vehicles had lightweight construction which allowed them to dominate the overland racing scene of the 1960s.

This particular 1970 model has been given a restoration that totaled well over $60,000. Mounted aft of the rear axle sits an oversized 1,915 cc horizontally opposed four-cylinder. Installed modifications include a mild Engle 100 cam, a Sachs performance clutch, two dual-barrel 40IDF carburetors, and a custom muffler mounted to the original sidewinder exhaust.

The exterior is metallic orange. It has Manx bumpers, custom mirrors, and custom-fitted front and rear seats. There are specially fabricated Volkswagen wheels, 14 inches up front and 15 inches in the rear. Other features include a three-spoke EMPI steering wheel and original Gene Berg short-shifter, linked to a new four-speed rancho transmission. Also, there are EMPI skid plate, seatbelts for all passengers, and seal-protected flywheel.
