1992 Porsche 911 Carrera Carrera RS

The early 1990s Porsche Carrera RS was introduced as a lightweight, track-ready version of the Carrera 2 based on the 911 'Carrera Cup'. As on the original 2.7 RS from the early 1970s, the 1990 version focused on weight reduction. Nearly every non-essential item was removed, trimming 250 kg and reducing curb weight to just over 1,233 kilos.

The interior featured manually adjustable Recaro sport seats, and racing harnesses in lieu of airbags. It had a lighter single-mass flywheel, non-assisted steering, lowered ride height and stiffer suspension, larger disc brakes with ABS behind 17-inch diameter magnesium alloy Cup wheels and thinner glass except on the windscreen. It also had a seam-welded chassis, an aluminum bonnet, and lightweight rear bumper.

These 'lightweight' specification cars were given a revised 260 horsepower version of the air-cooled M64 3.6-liter engine, a lightweight flywheel, and a limited-slip differential. The suspension was revised with a track-optimized setup with a 40-mm drop in ride height.

Owners had the option of power windows, rear seats, stereos, and air conditioning.

The 911 Carrera RS was not sold in the United States due to the aggressive tuning, and very few original European-specification cars made it into the States.

This particular example, currently residing in the U.S. It was imported in 2017 and like all Type 964 RSs, it is equipped with the M64/03 3.6-liter flat-six engine. When new, it was prepared for the Japanese market and was originally fitted with specific equipment for Japan. It was ordered with a limited-slip differential, a five-speed transmission, bucket seats, 17-inch Cup wheels, and Yokohama tires. It left the factory finished in Polar Silver Metallic over a Black/Grey Leatherette with leather seats. This is the same color combination it currently wears.
