The Porsche 911 Carrera RS 2.7 was built with the intention of homologating the Carrera 2.8 RSR (or RennSport Rennwagen) for FIA Group 4 competition. During its debut season, the RSR won the Targa Florio, the 24 Hours of Daytona, and the 12 Hours of Sebring. It would earn Porsche the World Manufacturers' and IMSA Driver's Championships. Other accomplishments include victories in IMSA< Trans Am, and the FIA World Championship.

The 964 Carrera 3.8 RS was introduced in 1993 and built in a very small series by Porsche's Racing Department in Weissach. Just 51 examples of the RSR competition version were built and would become one of the most successful racers in modern Porsche history. In competition, the RSR would earn amazing race results, with class and overall victories at important endurance races across the globe.

The competition built RSR had its interior and exterior stripped down and modified for circuit use. The interior featured a welded-in roll cage and only the barest of racing essentials. The Turbo body shell was comprised of fiberglass front and rear spoilers, an aluminum roof, doors and front deck.

Power was from a 3.8-liter dry sump M64/04 RSR-specific engine offering 325 horsepower and mated to a five-speed gearbox.

This particular example is chassis number 81. It was ordered via the Porsche Special Vehicle Department and supplied in early 1994 to Mark Sandridge of Westfield Center, Ohio. It was finished in Grand Prix White and was campaigned under Sandridge's Team Salad banner during the 1994 IMSA GT season. During the season, it earned an 2nd in Class and 4th Overall at the 24 Hours of Daytona, winning its class at both Sebring and Watkins Glen, and ultimately earning Sandridge the IMSA GT2 Championship, 2nd in the Exxon Championship, and 2nd in Class in the World Porsche Cup.

In 1996, the RSR was sold to Karl McKeever of Morrow, Georgia. During his ownership, McKeever updated the Porsche via Porsche Motorsports North America witch changes that included an updated 3.8-liter engine utilizing slide-valve throttle bodies. With these updates, the RSR competed for podiums at SCCA and Porsche Club of America events until 2006, at which time it was acquired by UK-based Porsche enthusiast Neil Primrose.

Currently, the car is in its 1994 Team Salad livery.
