The Super Sport Zagato was the pinnacle of the Lancia Flaminia evolution and was introduced at the 1956 Turin Motor Show. The Flaminia retained its Aurelia predecessor's mechanical layout, with the exception of a more modern double wishbone arrangement. It initially came equipped with a 2.5-liter engine, which was later increased to 2.8-liters in 1963. The Zagato version itself had three series. The first was the Sport which featured a body with headlights under covers. The second series had a more conventional front shape. The third series, the Super Sport, was given a more slender radiator grille with recessed headlights. Other modifications included three carburetors adapted to the 2.8-liter V-6 engine.
This third-series Lancia Flaminia Sport, known as the Super Sport, has spent over four decades in single-family Italian ownership. It is believed to be the 45th example of approximately 150 examples built. It is a Zagato-bodied Flaminia equipped with the 2.8-liter overhead valve V-6 engine fitted with three Weber 40 DCN 12 carburetors and offering 160 horsepower. It is finished in its factory color of Saratoga White and upholstered with red leather. It was originally sold in Italy and registered in the Como region.
It is believed that it was first sold to Fausto Marino of Dronero, Italy. Mr. Marino apparently commissioned a sympathetic refreshing of the Super Sport, including an exterior repaint in 2008 in the original factory color and a replating of the chrome in 2010.
Maximilian Cappa of Milan, Italy, acquired the car in 2012, and a year later, it was exported to the United States.By Daniel Vaughan | Dec 2017
