1934 was a big year for the LaSalle marque. A LaSalle Convertible Coupe was tasked with pacing that year's Indianapolis 500. Additionally, LaSalle became its own all-new car, no longer based upon Cadillac engineering and design. It was given a redesigned modern chassis, an Oldsmobile-sourced L-head straight eight engine, newly developed hydraulic brakes, and an independent front suspension setup. Its design was streamlined with chrome accents and 'ventiports' along the hood.
Approximately 650 examples of the Convertible Coupe were built, and around 50 examples have survived worldwide. This particular example is finished in Diana Cream. It was formerly owned by Bruce Armstrong of Seattle, Washington. The current owner saw it for the first time in the early 2000s and spent the next few years negotiation its purchase, finally acquiring it from its longtime caretaker's estate. Mr. Armstrong is believed to have been the car's second owner, having acquired it from the first, an heiress to the Carling brewing fortune.
This convertible coupe has never been fully restored. It is currently finished in its original color scheme.By Daniel Vaughan | Dec 2017
