A blacksmith named Uno Jensen and a car dealer named Wilhelm Nelleman built racing cars named Alfa Dana. The early cars built by the Danish manufacturer were similar in design to the Cooper MK IX. They had a chromium-molybdenum tube chassis with a suspension comprised of top leaf springs with lower wishbones. Except for the engine, these cars were built entirely by the Danish manufacturer. The early cars were powered by a JAP engine which was later replaced with a more powerful Norton powerplant.
The 500cc Formula 3 Alfa Dana made its racing debut in April of 1956 at Roskildering. Gunnar Henriksen, who would later become a Danish Champion in 1957 driving a Cooper, drove the Alfa Dana to an impressive fourth-place finish. The car's impressive performance resulted in four additional cars being produced.
The Alfa Dana would score its first victory after its fifth outing, where it was driven by Poul Rasmussen at the Skive Trotting Course in August.
Approximately seven examples of the Alfa Dana 500cc F3 cars were built by the summer of 1958.
Alfa Dana would built both front and rear engined cars, many were powered by BMC engines. The later, rear-engined cars were fitted with DKW powerplants.
