1958 Porsche 597 Jagdwagen Navigation
In 1955 Porsche built 22 military-type 597 prototypes. After losing the contract to DKW, Porsche retooled the design and built an additional 49 civilian prototypes in 1958. The Type 597 was now called the Jagdwagen or Hunting Car and took aim at those people looking for an outdoor vehicle.
Power for this vehicle is from a 1582 cc overhead valve flat 4-cylinder engine fitted with a Solex carburetor. It produces 50-55 horsepower which is sent to all four wheels via a five-speed manual transaxle.
