1974 McLaren M23

  • Chassis Number: M23/8
Emerson Fittipaldi took delivery of this M23, chassis #8, at Brands Hatch for the 1974 British Grand Prix where he finished second. With follow-up victories in Brazil and Belgium, it set the stage for Emerson's second Formula I World Championship in just three seasons. Jochen Mass, The Amelia 2015 Honoree, then raced this same car to a win the accident-abbreviated Spanish Grand Prix in April 1975. Fittingly, a new M23 took Fittipaldi to the final Grand Prix victory of his career in the 1975 British Grand Prix at Silverstone. McLaren's M23 was the first Formula 1 mount of superstars and future World Champions --- Gilles Villeneuve, Jody Scheckter, and Nelson Piquet. Perhaps McLaren's landmark M23 is best known beyond motorsport for its starring role in the 2013 movie RUSH! which told the story of the battle for the 1976 World Championship and featured three, nearly 20 percent of the total M23 production, vintage M23s.
