The Packard Model 30 marked the end of an era for this luxury automaker which presented its first model in 1899. Along with the smaller companion Model 18, the 30 was the last Packard car to have right-hand drive and an engine of only four cylinders.
This 432 cu. in. side-valve four-cylinder engine developed 30 horsepower and was coupled to a 3-speed manual transmission that made it capable of about 43 mph. It was offered in two wheelbases with varied coachwork. The Touring, Limousine, and Landaulette bodies rode on a 122-inch wheelbase while the Sporting Runabout and Gentleman's Roadster were on the shorter 108-inch chassis frame.
Total sales of the Model 30 between 1907 and 1912 were 9,540 vehicles. They sold for between $4,200 and $5,750.
This open-topped Gentleman's Roadster features two bucket seats - one each for the driver and passenger - and a bucket-style 'mother-in-law seat' on the rear deck - perched atop the gas tank. It also has acetylene headlights and kerosene sidelights. It is one of only three original Gentleman's Roadsters to survive and is in remarkable condition considering it was restored 60 years ago.
