For 1991, the FIA announced significant changes to the rules of Group C, limiting cars to 3.5-liter naturally aspirated engines, the same as Formula One at the time, and lowering the weight limit. TWR responded by designing an entirely new car with the help of Ross Brawn, who had previous success with the Arrows F1 program. The XJR14 was compromised of an F1 monocoque with a fully enclosed sports car body and was powered by a Jaguar-badged version of Ford's new Cosworth HB V-8, at the time available exclusively to Benneton in F1. The XJR-14's swept TWR and Jaguar to the 1991 Sports Car World Championship.
This car was the third of three cars and was raced by Derek Warwick and David Brabham. It was then used by TWR in IMSA racing in 1992, where Davy Jones took it to victory at Road Atlanta before a massive accident at Lime Rock ended its career.
