1936 Packard Model 1404 Super Eight Navigation
Roughly 1,500 examples of the Super Eight were built in 1936. At the time, America was still in the grips of a major economic recovery and sales were still slow. 1936 would be the final year for the 385 cubic-inch straight eight engine, as the smaller 325 cubic-inch unit replaced it the following year. Styling changes for 1936 included the 5-degree 'tilted' back radiator shell.
This particular Convertible Coupe is equipped with a 2-speed rear end for highway cruising. It has a known history from new and was originally sold in Calgary, Alberta to Mr. Jack Baxter. He paid $5000 Canadian for the new Packard. It was later sold to Jim Brewster and then to Murray Gamon who had it shipped to Banff, Alberta where it stayed for many years. Murray shipped the Packard to Custom Auto in Santa Ana, California in 1966-67 for restoration. Upon completion, he drove it back to Victoria, B.C. to the Classic Car Museum in 1971.
In 1991, the car was sold to Gordon Levitt of Vancouver, B.C. When it was sold to its next owner in 1997, the car traveled to Seattle, Washington, and remained in a private collection until 2013 when it was sold to its current owner who restored it to its current condition.By Daniel Vaughan | Apr 2018
