1963 Renault Caravelle Navigation
The Renault Caravelle was a sports car produced between 1958 and 1968. Outside of North America and Britain it was, until 1962, marketed under the nameplate Renault Floride.
During a convention in Florida of North American distributors, Renault's U.S. dealers asked for the creation of a Dauphine coupe/cabriolet. Pierre Dreyfus, Renault's chairman, agreed and since the idea was born at a convention in Florida it became known as the 'Renault Floride.' The 'Floride' name was considered unsuitable for 49 of the 50 states of the USA as it may have implied disrespect to states other than Florida. For this reason, it was given the name 'Caravelle.'
