1972 Dodge Charger SE Hardtop

Many automobile manufacturers were exploring and experimenting with new ideas in the specialty and personal luxury car segment during the early 1960s. Chrysler selected their Dodge Division to create a bigger model that could fit between the Ford Thunderbird and the Ford Mustang. In 1965 they built a Charger 'Idea' car which was displayed at auto shows to gauge market interest. The fastback-styled show car was based on the new Coronet and appeared mid-way through the 1966 model year. It was offered with a variety of engine options ranging from the standard 318 cubic-inch V8 up to the 440 Magnum and 426 Hemi. For 1968, the Charger was restyled with a semi-fastback body style and was overhauled again for 1971.

This particular example was ordered from the factory fully loaded with options. The original owner paid nearly $5,000 for the vehicle. Some of the options included the EV2 Hemi Orange High Impact paint, a 440ci 4-barrel big block, air conditioning, AM/FM multiplex stereo, hidden headlights, and a tailored roof treatment. Currently, this car has 16,000 documented miles on its odometer.

The 440 cubic-inch overhead valve V8 engine is fitted with Triple Weber carburetors and offers 335 horsepower. There is a three-speed automatic transmission and four-wheel drum brakes.
