This Daytona Spider was the 88th example built in the assembly sequence of the 123-car total production. It was built as a left-hand drive model and sent to the United States. It was optioned with air conditioning, a radio and US-market instruments. It left the factory finished in 20-R190 Rosso Chiaro red, and trimmed in VM 8500 Pelle Nera black.
The car took months to complete and it wasn't until February of 1973 that 16801 was shipped off to the Western US Ferrari importer, Modern Classic Motors, owned by William F. Harrah. By 1976, it was in the care of Miami resident Mr. Jeff Weiss, who would keep it for more than a decade, before selling it in 1987 to Mr. Erich Eichler of Malvern, PA. At the time, it had 15,099 miles on its odometer.
Soon after the purchase, Mr. Eichler began a complete restoration. Once completed, it was shown at various Ferrari Club of America events, including the 1995 FCA National Meet, and the 1996 Ferrari Concours in Reading, PA.
By the late 1990s, it had become part of Mr. Peter Livanos' Gstaad, Swtizerland based collection. It would remain in his ownership for nearly two decades. In 2017, it returned to the United States and given some recommissioning and paintwork.
