1989 Porsche 911 Slantnose Navigation
The Porsche 911 Turbo Carrera was introduced to the United States for the 1975 model year. Distinguishable features included the race car-like 'Whale-tail' spoiler, wide alloy wheels, and large fender flares.
For 1989, the Turbo with Option M505 was renamed the '930 S' and raised the base list price by $29,555 to $100,530. The 1989 model was the first to receive the G50/50 five-speed transmission. There was a new hydraulic clutch sourced from the Carrera, and the center of the rear torsion bar tube was modified to accept the new gearbox and clutch. Handling was improved by the rear torsion bars being increased to 27 mm, while the rear swaybar was reduced to 18 mm, and Bilstein gas-filled shocks and struts were employed.
This particular Porsche 911 Turbo 'Flat-Nose' Coupe is one of just 60 examples built with the 'Slant Nose' (or Flat-nose) option. This design feature, inspired by the 1979 LeMans-winning 935 race car, had a price tag of nearly $30,000.
It was delivered from the factory in February of 1989 finished in traditional Guards Red with a tan leather interior. Options include an electric sunroof, air conditioning, 40-percent limited-slip differential, Sport leather steering wheel with raised hub ($67), a Blaupunkt stereo cassette player with additional rear shelf speakers, a shorter shift lever of the sort used in the 911 SC/RS (also $67), and electrically adjustable seats in 'supple leather' ($356) with additional driver's side lumbar support ($537 extra).
This late-production example has 964 window seals and 964 cams. The centers of the Fuchs alloy wheels have been painted to match the body.
The current caretaker acquired this car in late 2014. Currently, it has 28,700 miles on its odometer.By Daniel Vaughan | Apr 2018
