1992 Porsche 911 Carrera Carrera RS

Porsche unveiled the 964-based Carrera RS in 1991 as a high-performance, limited-production version of the Carrera 2 production car built. Amenities such as power-adjustable seats, cruise control, an entertainment system, air conditioning, and sound deadening and insulation were removed in efforts to reduce weight. The rear seats were removed and replaced with carpeting. All chassis seams were fully welded. The steel doors and front trunk lid were replaced with aluminum panels. Thinner glass was used for the doors and backlight. Bolstered bucket sports seats were used in place of the stock 964 seats.

Powering the RS was an M64/03 air-cooled, dry-sump horizontally opposed SOHC six-cylinder engine modified to produce 260 horsepower and 240 foot-pounds of torque. The engine was given a Bosch electronic engine management system, and sequential fuel injection. The engine was mated to a G50/10 five-speed gearbox with steel synchronizer rings, taller first and second gears, and altered shift sleeves. A single-mass sport flywheel and a ZF asymmetrical limited-slip differential were also part of the mechanical equation.

The modified suspension included stiffer McPherson struts, alloy transverse control arms, and coil-over shock absorbers in the front. In the back were light-alloy semi-trailing arms with coil-over shock absorbers. Anti-roll bars in both the front and rear were adjustable.

A total of 2,276 examples of the 964 RS were built with 1,910 of them being 'Basics' - also known as Lightweights. These 'basics' were built without luxury options making them more suitable as track cars or high performance street machines. Porsche also built 290 N/GTs or 'Sport' models for racing in the BPR GT Group N series and for buyers who wished to participate in track events. An additional 76 examples were built in 'Touring' trim, with full interiors, sound deadening material, unique seats, and accoutrements that included AC, sunroofs, and power windows.

This particular example is a 'Basic' finished in original Polar Silver Metallic (92E), with black RS exterior trim, a black leatherette interior with black and grey leather-covered sports seats. There are red RS door pulls and manual window lifts. The odometer shows 60,500 km from new.

This is a Japanese-delivery RS that was brought to the United States in July of 2013. It was fully federalized to U.S. DOT standards by JK Technologies LLC in Baltimore, Maryland.
