The Porsche 928 model was very different from the vehicles that the Stuttgart based firm had produced to date. It came at a time when Porsche were trying to expand their range to include a truly grand touring car.
Porsche's front-engined, water-cooled, V8-powered 928 with 2+2 seating and wearing styling by Wolfgang Möbius was introduced in 1977 at the Geneva Motor Show. This represented the company's first foray into grand touring territory. Among its accolades, it was awarded the 1978 European Car of the Year Award. Production continued until 1995, by which time some 61,000 examples had been made.
At introduction, power was provided by a 4474cc unit that offered 240 horsepower. The galvanized steel monocoque frame was suspended on double wishbone coil-sprung suspension at the front and lower wishbone with upper transverse link and coil springs at the rear. The car featured ventilated disc brakes all round, while the gearbox (five-speed manual or three-speed automatic) was rear-mounted and integral with the axle.
In 1979, Porsche introduced the 928S and featured an enlarged engine of 4664cc. Zero-to-sixty took 6.2 miles and the top speed was in the 155 mph region.
This particular example was delivered new to Brumos Porsche in Jacksonville, Florida, and purchased by its first owner, William Hall, on December 17th of 1981.
In 2001, this car was donated by Mr. Hall to the Brumos Collection. It has the 220 horsepower engine mated to an optional three-speed automatic transmission. It is finished in white paint and rides on 16-inch Phone Dial wheels. There is tan leather interior with leather dashboard, and air conditioning.By Daniel Vaughan | Apr 2018
