The current owner of this Porsche 911 S had it equipped for rallying, including mechanical, exterior, interior, and safety features. It was prepared for the Mexican road rally Carrera Panamerica, during which it was given the nickname, 'Mexicar.' Modifications to the two-liter engine include Weber 40 mm carburetors, revised camshafts, additional external oil cooling, and a twin-plug ignition system. In this guise, it is estimated to produce 170 horsepower. It was given gear ratios favorable to rallying, with closely spaced 2nd, 3rd, and 4th gears, and a taller 5th for distance cruising. Ride height is set 35 mm higher than standard, with heavy-duty front damper inserts and adjustable anti-roll bars installed. Larger disc brakes were added from a later 911, with oversized reservoirs and split fluid storage serving two brake circuits. The front wheels are 5.5 inches wide and the rear wheels are 7 inches. A second spare tire can be found mounted on the roof. There is a 17-gallon safety fuel cell which can be accessed via a through-the-hood filler unit.
The body received an aluminum hood and fiberglass engine lid. The rear fenders were flared to accommodate the wider wheels and tires. Additional skid plates were installed under the fuel tank, nose, floor pedal areas, and beneath the engine and transmission. Inside, there is a multi-point, padded roll cage welded in place and FIA-approved competition seats with six-point safety harnesses. There is a fire system, a kill switch, a first aid kit, and communication and navigation equipment.
