1905 Packard Model N Tourer

Packard began its seventh year as an automobile manufacturer in 1905, the first Packard having taken the road in 1899. The firm quickly established itself as a producer of premium automobiles and trucks - the Packard name became quite visible during 1905 - its new 1.5-ton truck was the official baggage carrier on the New York City to Mount Washington Glidden Tour. The company received further notoriety when its truck climbed the 6,200 feet from the base to the summit of Mt. Washington. Despite heavy rain and sleet at night on rough roads when visibility was near zero, it made the ascent in just one hour and 45 minutes.

This Model N was purchased from the Philadelphia Packard dealer by William T. Hunter, founder of the Devon Horse Show. His initials are on the front of the radiator. There were a total of 401 Model Ns built in 1905 and just four are known to survive.
