The Indianapolis, Indiana, firm of Stutz responded to competitors who were building V-12 and V1-6 engines the only way they could afford - with the eight-cylinder DV-32. Stutz lacked the financial resources of its competitors, instead serving up a technical 'tour de force' featuring twin overhead camshafts, four valves per cylinder, and hemispherical combustion chambers. The DV32 boasted 156 horsepower and an astounding 300 lb-ft of torque - good for a guaranteed 100 mph. Between 1931 and 1934, fewer than 200 DV-32s were built.
This particular example was purchased in New York City in 1938 by legendary Stutz collector A.K. Miller. The current owner bought this car at the famous Miller sale in 1996, albeit in derelict, but original condition. He had the car restored during 1996 and 1997, later selling the car. Regretting his decision, he bought the car back in 2017 when it rejoined his collection. Only two DV-32s are known to sport this convertible coupe coachwork by LeBaron of Detroit.
