1974 Porsche Carrera IROC RSR Navigation
During the 1973 Can-Am season Penske Racing created the International Race of Champions; a four-race contest amongst the best racers in the world driving 'identical' and 'equal' Porsche Carrera RSRs. Naturally, Penske's Trans-Am champion and Indy 500 winner Mark Donohue joined the all-champions series. Additionally, reigning F1 World Champion Emerson Fittipaldi, stock car ace Bobby Allison, Indy Champion AJ Foyt, and double Can-Am Champion Denny Hulme, Gordon Johncock, 1973 Champcar Champion Roger McCluskey, NASCAR star David Pearson and Indy 500 and Pikes Peak winner Bobby Unser raced the Carreras in a made-for-TV three-race format. This is the car that took Donohue to victory in Round One of the IROC at Riverside, California.
Only the top 6 finishing drivers competed in all four races. The champs swapped cars for each race and Donohue also won the third race at Riverside. He won the season finale in this car at the Daytona International Speedway to clinch the first IROC title.
