1920 Stutz Series H Bearcat

The first Stutz Bearcat was built in 1912 as a road-going version of the prototype Stutz Model A racer that competed in the inaugural 1911 Indianapolis 500 race. That car did remarkably well, beating many established brands and earning the company the slogan 'The car That Made Good in a Day.' The following year, a Stutz Bearcat Roadster served as the pace car at the 1912 Indianapolis 500. The Bearcat was designed around an underslung chassis, ensuring a lower center of gravity and good handling characteristics. Alongside its main rival, the Mercer Raceabout, the Bearcat was the ultimate in American sports cars of the era. This Series H Bearcat as a 16-valve, 4-cylinder, 80-horsepower engine that drew heavily on Stutz's racing experience. Just over 2,000 Stutz's were manufactured in 1920, but only a small number of these were Bearcat due to the model's high price tag.
