1930 Ruxton Model C Navigation
The Ruxton was an innovative and luxurious car. Taking engineering inspiration from Harry Miller's front-wheel-drive race cars, and fitted with a Continental 18S straight-8 engine, the revolutionary car was lower, lighter, and faster than its main rival, the Cord L29. In 1929, Ruxton's owners hired the famous architect and designer Joseph Urban to devise a paint scheme that would make the Sedan appear ever longer and lower than it actually was. When displayed at prominent auto shows, these rainbow-hued Ruxtons generated a great deal of publicity but, sadly, few sales. Less than 100 Ruxtons were produced and just 19 are known to survive, of which 9 are Model C Sedans.
This car was purchased from the factory by a prominent real estate agent in Pittsburgh, and later owners included Harrah's Automobile Museum and the Imperial Palace Collection. It is currently owned by Jim Fasnacht, the leading authority on Ruxton. It made its post-restoration debut in its authentic multitone green livery at the 2018 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance.
