Rolls-Royce had years of experience developing and building V12 aero engines before introducing a 7,338cc V12 engine into their new Phantom III. The Phantom III was also equipped with new independent front suspension using a design borrowed from General Motors that allowed the engine to be placed farther forward in the chassis, giving greater space for more luxurious coachwork. This car is from the second series of PIIIs and is the only James Young Drophead Coupe built. This unique motorcar was described by Lawrence Dalton in his book The Derby Phantoms as 'Possibly the most handsome Drophead Coupe on a Phantom III, by James Young.' Ordered new by Mr. S. Harris of Surrey, England, it remained in Europe until the late 1990s then came to the United States. Acquired by its current owner in 2016, it has recently been restored to its original specification.
