1929 Pierce-Arrow Model 125 Navigation
Pierce-Arrow built cars of uncompromising quality from 1901 through 1938.
Customers knew the quality of Pierce-Arrow, a car that had been the choice of presidents. But their large, powerful T-head six-cylinder engines were expensive to produce and lacked the cachet of straight eight and V-8 engines from competitors despite their merits of smoothness and power delivery. By 1928, Pierce-Arrow had an L-head straight-eight in the works but not enough money to bring it to market.
In 1928, Pierce-Arrow merged with the Studebaker Corporation, saving it from bankruptcy, and for five years it was the fourth largest automotive conglomerate and FM, Ford, and Chrysler. In 1929 Pierce-Arrow introduced the Model 133 and 143 - so named for the length in inches of their respective wheelbases. The L-head straight-8 engined cars boasted more modern styling while retaining the rather conservative look that customers expected. The majority of cars included the marque's trademark fender-mounted headlights styled by Herbert Dawley.
This Pierce-Arrow Model 133 Coupe was discovered by Ross Myers in a tobacco barn in Roanoke, Virginia, in 1970. Two years later Ross's father, Allan C. Myers, brought it home to Pennsylvania where it underwent a complete rebuild. The car later passed to Ross, who has recently restored it and presented it at the 2018 Pebble Beach Concours, fulfilling his father's dream that the car might once be shown at the event.
This Model 133 earned an AACA Senior Badge in 1976.
